June 6, 2009 - "June 6, 1944" - On June 6, 1944, the Allies landed on the beaches of Normandy to begin the invasion of Europe and to push Germany out of France and the other occupied territories. An unprecedented number of soldiers, sailors, boats, ships, guns, planes and paratroopers left England to face the heavily armed and well fortified Germans. Many brave men lost their lives in this attempt on the morning of June 6, known as D-Day, but the Allied troops kept landing on the Norman beaches for several days following. Delmarva Survival Training web site and its associated blogs salutes these brave men that were involved.
