May 28, 2009 - "Retreat Admittance Rules" By Joseph Parish. Since you are the person responsible for establishing your retreat it only seems logical that you should establish a few ground rules for any visitors that you may perhaps invite in during an emergency situation. Under normal circumstances a leader is usually chosen by age, experience in survival techniques and the supplies that they have accumulated. Click here

Be safe - Be aware of gas safety
May 23, 2009 - "Be Safe - Be Aware of Gas Safety" By Stephen P Brown. It is important to remember that gas safety should always be kept as a number 1 issue whether in industrial or domestic situations. In the majority of properties a lot of people don't know where to turn of their gas supply. You should know where the meter and emergency control valve is located! And you must make sure that it is not obstructed at all times. All gas meters must have an emergency control valve to allow it to be turned off in the event of an emergency and to allow work to be carried out on the installation. Click here

Improve survival food storage
May 22, 2009 - "Improve Survival Food Storage - Oxygen Absorbers and Nitrogen Packing" By Kevin Taylor. The freeze drying process removes 98% of the water from food, stopping bacterial growth as well as killing insects and their eggs. Beyond freeze drying further to preserve food and increase shelf life, oxygen is the main enemy. If the food is stored in a way that it is not exposed to oxygen, the shelf life can reach 25 to 30 years. Shelf life here refers to the food maintaining it's properties of nutritional value, taste, and appearance. Click here

Could we experience meat rationing again?
May 21, 2009 - "Could we experience meat rationing again?" by Joseph Parish. On May the 3rd of 1944 the federal government and in particular the Office of Price Administration made available all meats which were previously rationed except for beef roast and beef steaks. Unfortunately at the same time they announced that they would cut in half the “red points” which were required to purchase staples such as butter, evaporated milk, cheese, beef steaks and roasts. In effect what this provided was that the average citizen would actually receive less of these desired products then they previously had. Click here

How Critical is food storage in an emergency
May 20, 2009 - "How critical is food storage in an emergency" by Joseph Parish. Most hard and true survivalists tend to worry significantly about whether they have a sufficient supply of food stored up for a possibly emergency. To them their food supply is of paramount importance since its primary purpose is to take care of their family in the event of a crisis. Click here

Apocalypse Type Survival Plans
May 18, 2009 - "Apocalypse Type Survival Plans" By Joseph Parish. You can easily find that some survivalist have no sort of survival plan what so ever. I recently spoke with several that are in this frame of mind. They readily state that there are several reasons behind their mad thinking but the most predominant is that they claim to be one of those people who would least likely be able to survive in any sort of apocalyptic crisis. Federal budget cuts and the Swine flu problem
May 17, 2009 - "Federal budget cuts and the Swine flu problem" By Joseph Parish. There is no getting around the idea that our economy is hurting badly. Not only are the normal households trying to cut expenses and balance their budgets but the federal government is actively seeking ways to cut their costs as well. Many federally sponsored programs are on the verge of losing all or some of their urgently needed funding as our government tries desperately to sort out this financial nightmare. Click here

May 16, 2009 - "Delmarva Survival Training offers helpful tips for preparing for Swine Flu" By Joseph Parish. We have tried to include several simple steps that just about any family can take to prepare for the swine flu should it arrive in your area. We live in an age where distance is no obstacle for traveling around the globe. You can catch a quick flight from Mexico to Barcelona and still be there in time to have an evening meal. This is good under normal circumstances however in the last several weeks this shortness of distance has proven to be a major headache. Click here

You got it right Mr. Stephen King
May 14, 2009 - You got it right Mr. Stephen King!" By Joseph Parish. I am confident that there is just about no one in the western world who has not heard of Stephen King. Being an avid collector of Stephen King’s books I have managed to amass every first edition that was published including several with both a European and American version. I have always considered “The Stand” to be Mr. King’s best work so far. He stylishly managed to merge the unexpected and unusual with a genuine possibility for a climatic episode. It so happens that perchance Stephen was foreseeing in his imagination of this novel for it is highly possible that we are presently in the same state of affairs as the characters portrayed within his book. Here is a fictional piece that I recently wrote. It should be taken with a grain of salt. Click here

Survivalists and Fear
May 13, 2009 - "Survivalists and Fear" By Joseph Parish. Nearly everyone at sometime or other has experienced the sensation of fear. Fear is normal for any living thing to experience and acts as a danger threshold for our body. Human bodies are frail and often times the owners of those bodies fail to comprehend the limits that Mother Nature has imposed upon us but fear tends to balance this out and warn us of impending perils. Locust can save your life
May 12, 2009 - "Locust can save your life" By Joseph Parish. In 2004 Israel experienced a severe incursion of locust which reached biblical magnitudes. This famished swarm of gluttonous vegetarians devastated a significant amount of vegetation leaving little in their wake for human consumption. The locust was promptly approved for human applications and several recipe books were composed instructing the public on how to prepare these creatures for the dinner table. Click here

Survivalists 6th Sense
May 11, 2009 - "Survivalists 6th sense" By Joseph Parish. Our ancestors survived violent times by using their intuition and what many of them classified as “gut feelings”. Regrettably over the years we have been taught to reason in a rational and systematic manner and to suppress any initiate feelings that may surface. These same feelings that we restrain could possibly save our lives in an emergency. Click here

Benefits of Turmeric
May 9, 2009 - "Benefits of Turmeric" By Joseph Parish. If you are like most people you take pleasure in an occasional romp in the kitchen tossing this and tossing that together into a graceful combination which smoothly caresses your palates as you consume you evening meal. I too enjoy creating previously unknown delicacies for our evening meals. I guess in that case we both may be familiar with the spice known as turmeric. Many cooks, chefs and most of the general public do not realize the many health benefits which we can derive from the use of turmeric. Click here

Green Tea Information
May 6, 2009 - "Green Tea Information" By Joseph Parish. Many people are completely taken back by the suggestion that all tea originates from the same plant - Camellia Sinensis. The fashionable Green tea is actually the outcome of vigilantly curing young camellia leaf by a multiplicity of different methods and by using varied amounts of heat in the preparation. In some countries you will discover that some types of green tea are cured with ovens comparable to those found in the home and surprisingly a few are actually pan fried in what appears to resemble a giant wok known in the industry as a ding. Want more fruit from less aspace? Espalier your trees
May 4, 2009 - "Want more fruit from less space? Espalier your trees!" By Rev. J.D. Hooker. After originating in the semi-arid regions of the Middle East, espaliering (is-`pal-yer-ing) became a commonly employed fruit tree growing method of the Greco-Roman world. Later, during the so-called "Dark Ages" after Rome's fall, these techniques were kept alive in isolated monasteries. Click here
