May 21, 2009 - "Could we experience meat rationing again?" by Joseph Parish. On May the 3rd of 1944 the federal government and in particular the Office of Price Administration made available all meats which were previously rationed except for beef roast and beef steaks. Unfortunately at the same time they announced that they would cut in half the “red points” which were required to purchase staples such as butter, evaporated milk, cheese, beef steaks and roasts. In effect what this provided was that the average citizen would actually receive less of these desired products then they previously had. Click here
